Be a Neighborhood Hero
When our beloved Dog fell over, we knew something was very wrong!
One night back around Easter of this year, Carol and I were relaxing and watching TV in our home. After losing Gus our other Lab/Boxer mixed pup in Thanksgiving just months earlier, we were still greiving that loss. Something to know is that we got Gus right when we got married 11 years ago. We do not have children, so the dogs got alot of attention. Anyhow, near the Easter holiday while we were relaxing in the living room and Gabby was laying on her bed, we noticed she sat up stiff and rolled over backwards. We rushed to her to see if she was ok since it looked strange. She looked to be in distress and we were obviously taken aback. While our minds raced about what to do, it dawned on me that our neighbor down the street was a licensed Vetenarian who had chosen to stay home to raise her young children. During a recent visit with her, she offered her condolensces for losing Gus and welcomed us to call her anytime if we had problems with Gabby. That offer popped right into my head. We called her even though it was about 9:30pm. She rushed over with her medical bag without hesitation and examined our pup. She said she thought it was imperative that we get her to the emergency animal hospital. She helped us load Gabby and we took off. Once we got to the emergency hospital and the staff Vet examined Gabby, the news was bad. Her spleen had burst and her belly was filling with blood. We had no choice but to euthanize her and try to save her any more discomfort. It was tough! After going home and processing the event, we realized how much we appreciated the care and kindness that our neighbor showed by dropping what she was doing to rush to our assistance. We won't ever forget what she did for us and our dog. I won't give her identity out of respect for her privacy, but she knows she is. We would like to say thanks and you can always call on us for anything.
